About

Pollokshields Heritage was formed in 1992 as a local conservation and amenity society with the intention of preserving and conserving this unique garden suburb.

The majority of the villas, terraces and tenements of Pollokshields are over 120 years old, but their quality is high and unlikely to be equalled in the future, so their condition must be carefully maintained.

Our garden suburb is now greener and potentially more attractive than ever before, thanks to the city’s cleaner air and the residents’ understanding of the importance of the environment. Glasgow City Council is obliged to ‘preserve and enhance the character and appearance of the city’s conservation areas, a commitment requiring the full cooperation from owners and residents.

Pollokshields Heritage aims to:

  • Encourage development that enhances the area’s environment, heritage and culture, having regards to amenity, character and vernacular

  • Encourage and stimulate public interest in all aspects of the local environment

  • Provide support for the conservation and / or restoration of buildings and space contributing to the above aim

  • Organise meetings, talks, publications and other events as well as work with other charities and organisations.

Pollokshields Heritage SCIO is a registered charity in Scotland (No. SCO51679), non-aligned politically with membership open to all who support its aims. There is no joining fee but all donations are greatly appreciated and help to fund the society.
