Robert Barclay Shaw (1852-1905)

Responsible for Dykenuek, Oak Knowe and Olrig Terrace (a tenement in Glencairn Drive, Shields Road and Newark Drive).

Shaw was born on 28th October 1852 at Gorbals to William Shaw, builder and contractor in Wallace Street, Glasgow. Shaw took over the business when his father died and worked on buildings for architects in both Glasgow and Edinburgh while also building tenements and villas on his own in Pollokshields. His crowning glory was the building of the 1888 and 1901 International Exhibitions in Glasgow. He was a member of the Trades House and was appointed Commissioner of Supply for Renfrewshire and was also a Commissioner for the Burgh of Pollokshields East. He died aged 52 on 13th June 1905 at Annick Lodge, Ayrshire.
