Pollokshields Heritage Heritage Trail Two
36 New Victoria Gardens
Glenapp Street

Step through the wee door in the wall and you are led into the magical oasis which is New Victoria Gardens. First established c1865 in Cathcart Road, they moved to this large site in Pollokshields in 1871. Maxwell Road scythed through their ground c1878 and a local resident, Andrew Aird, in his 1894 ‘Glimpses of old Glasgow’ noted that the gardens had seventy five plots – now they have 66. The Annual Flower Show still flourishes.
